Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution for the books!

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

When most people think about thanksgiving a warm feeling of family, food, love, and laughter touches the surface. Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus families all over the world are forced to commemorate this holiday on different terms. In spite of this a non-profit organization are trying their best to bring that warm feeling back to families all over Houston.

Recently, I joined founders of Bread of Life inc., Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, as well as countless volunteers in the execution of a drive-by turkey meal distribution. A giving opportunity that wouldn't have been made possible without the assistance of rapper/singer Megan Thee Stallion.

Cars wrapped around the corners of Crawford Street as kids sat impatiently in the back seats for their turn. Turkeys were prepped and stacked by the volunteer sign in table.

With 800 turkeys donated, this was sure to be enough product for what was 600-700 families.

Holiday after holiday, we gear up to spend time with our families and splurge on plates of food, and sometimes we don’t realize that there are people out there who don’t get to experience that excitement. This turkey drive was a small part in being aware and helping

Teamwork was the key that kept the operation moving. Someone guided volunteers through jobs, we were broken up into teams, some to give turkeys, some to give milk, and some to give vegetables.

It was fast-paced, and no one was left on their own.

This process took hours and yet everyone was determined to fill hungry bellies with warmth.

People of all different ages, races, and backgrounds, came together not knowing each other to do something good for other people. From the smiles on many family's faces, I believe we did just that.

“Aside from a delicious turkey, I want people to know that Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus are thinking of them this holiday season.”

Thanksgiving is going to be a different experience this year, but the joy of sharing smiles, giving back, and being reminded of that warm holiday feeling never has to change.

Wishing many blessings to everyone on this holiday weekend, until next time, peace.
